Community Benefit Societies : Caution 1 top tip

Community Benefit Societies

Community Benefit Societies are required to submit their annual return (AR30 form) and accounts to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) within seven months of the end of their financial year.  We act for many Community Benefit Societies as auditor.

To ensure timely processing, it’s advisable to use the Mutuals Society Portal for submissions. If online submission isn’t possible, you can mail your documents to

Mutuals Team
Financial Conduct Authority
12 Endeavour Square
London
E20 1JN

Please note that postal submissions may experience longer processing times.

Failure to meet the submission deadline for Community Benefit Societies can result in the FCA either cancelling your society’s registration, which means the society would no longer exist as a legal entity and members would lose their limited liability, or prosecuting the society, potentially leading to fines of up to £1,000 per offence and associated costs.

For detailed guidance on preparing and submitting your annual return and accounts, refer to the FCA’s guidelines on annual returns and accounts for mutual societies.
